Group Swim Lessons (updated 4/4/12)

MOMMY AND ME

For swimmers ages 1-3 years:
• Moms and Dads enjoy a unique bonding experience with their child
• To familiarize young children with the water and prepare them to learn to swim in a Level 1 course. It is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water on their own.
• Muscle strength and coordination are developed

LEVEL 1

To get students comfortable in the water. Students will learn to:
• Enter and exit water safely
• Submerge mouth, nose and eyes
• Exhale underwater through mouth and nose
• Retrieve submerged objects
• Roll over from front to back and back to front
• Be able to float on front and back for 10 seconds

LEVEL 2

For students to learn skills that will allow them to move comfortably around the pool. Students will learn to:
• Submerge entire head
• Perform front and back glide
• Perform elementary back stroke
• Begin to learn crawl and back stroke
• Tread water using arm and leg motions (in chest-deep water)
• Retrieve object from shallow end
• Be able to jump in and swim to side

LEVEL 3 

For students to learn proper technique of free style, back stroke, and introduce the breast stroke and butterfly. Students will learn to:
• Dive and swim back to wall
• Swim full length of pool without assistance
• Be able to perform free style, back stroke and breast stroke properly
• Float on front and back in deep water
• Change from horizontal to vertical position on their front and back
• Butterfly-kick

LEVEL 4 

For students who would like to further improve their strokes but aren't yet ready to jump into swim team. Students will learn to:
• Tread for one minute
• Front and back glide with flutter kick 1 length
• Dolphin kick 3-5 body lengths under water on front and back
• Independently complete kneeling or standing dive
• Butterfly arms and idea of the motion
• Learn open swimming turns
• Breaststroke


*In order to enroll in swim lessons at Clayview (excluding Mommy and Me), your child should be able to do the following:
• Comprehend and follow instruction
• Be totally independent of their parents or guardians for the length of the lesson
• Parents and/or guardians are asked to stay away from their children during the lesson
*Children must pass a level before they can enroll in the next level
*Group swim lessons are available to members only.
*Private swim lessons are also available for $20.00/half hour. 
*Non members may take private swim lessons for $35.00/half hour.

*Make up lessons (due to inclement weather) for all classes will be held on Fridays, except in the case of Session 3 morning classes. A make up date for that class will be determined later if necessary.

*Must have a minimum of three students to hold class (maximum of ten students).
